Kia ora, hi there!
You made it to my page. I’m James, a Kiwi of English/Māori/Croatian descent and here is a bunch of things I’ve made to look good, weird or somewhere in-between. Its a playful curation of things anywhere from doodles to commercial design work including some print jobs and some works that managed to sneak into some exhibitions.
Enjoy and feel free to reach out to me to connect or collaborate!

My last design role was as an in-house motion and graphic designer at TV3’s Newshub, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery. I spent three years there gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced environment, learning a ton not just about graphics, but also about broadcasting, digital media, and live content creation. Before Newshub’s closure, I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of such a great team, not just within the graphics department but across the entire station. The passion everyone brought each day was inspiring and made the work feel meaningful.
During my time here I picked up a lot of skills but the day to day was mainly using Photoshop and After Effects to create the graphics needed to illustrate news stories. Speed a lot of the time with these graphics so they were often made from templates made ahead of time. Depending on how busy the day was limited how much extra time you could spend on graphics before you had to move on.
On top of the daily motion graphics there would be a lot of work in Photoshop and Illustrator to create vista’s daily for the on-screen stage behind the presenters. This is one of mine above during Covid where there was no shortage of photos of people in masks!
Occasionally I would get opportunities to get really creative and create branding and show mock ups. I came up with the stuff here for the Rugby World Cup and the Married At First Sight show. I was really proud of seeing my little rugby ball ‘a’ on the France23 broadcast’s watermark across the games. Sports graphics were always a lot of fun, really bold and colourful.
Time to time I’d get to do some product photography for our show and website. We would get sponsors or review requests from tech companies where they would send in their stuff for promotion. It was usually Apply or Samsung promoting a new phone, tablet or watch which were a lot of fun to shoot and edit.
